The people search icon is the magnifying glass at the top of the left navigation menu. This tool should be used whenever you need to find a constituent’s profile.
-
The people search takes whatever info you enter and runs it against names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers in the system to try to find a match.
-
Just like searching in Google, the people search searches all of the listed fields, so it is good practice to use partial, more unique information for a given person as there may be very many “John Smith’s” in your system, but fewer “Smith Jones St” or even “Smith j.smitty4@gmail.com.”
-
-
If you hit the dropdown caret to the right after you open the people search, you can enter info you have into the specific fields provided - so instead of searching for “Smith” across first, middle, last, email, etc., you can specify you want to search a specific field
-
For example, if you know the person’s last name is “Roosevelt,” you can tell Fireside to search for that data in the last name field only instead of checking across all the fields mentioned above.
-
-
There are a number of helpful icons that can identify important traits of a person’s profile in the search field, such as a tombstone if someone is deceased, a red exclamation point if an email is invalid, and more! You can identify a trait in the search if you hover your mouse over the icon.

Tips and Tricks:
-
When searching for phone numbers in people search, do so without typing out the dashes “-” and instead keep it as a string of numbers
-
By clicking on the check box next to a person’s name in search, you can “pin” the person below so that you can either merge duplicates of the same person or create a household
-
Merge people - sometimes you may run across duplicate profiles of the same person. Perhaps one profile was created due to an email sent in to your office and it lacked a mailing address and another had the opposite issue. To merge these profiles into one (since they are the same person) check the boxes next to the profiles and hit the snowman button in the top right corner and choose “Merge People.” This will take you to a page to choose the information you would like to keep (if there is conflicting data) and allows you to merge the profiles into one!
-
Create Household - just like merging profiles, you can household individuals who have the same mailing address to designate mail recipients when sending out mass mailers by clicking the snowman button and choosing “Create household.”
