Web Redirects

What is a redirect?

A redirect is a server or client-side automatic forwarding from one URL to another URL. It is also a technique for making webpages available under more than one URL address and are used for various purposes such as the relocation of a website to a new domain. Oftentimes, offices will create a unique or “vanity” URL that is descriptive, memorable, and easily pronounceable so that it is easier for constituents to find.

When is a redirect needed?

You should request a redirect when:

  • You’re moving from one system to another and change URLs because of that.

  • You deleted a page and there is similar content available elsewhere.

  • You’re merging the content of several pages into one.

Here are some examples of what a redirect might look like:

 jimbo.house.gov/services redirects to jimbo.house.gov/constituent-services

jimbo.house.gov/forms/emailsignup redirects to jimbo.house.gov/forms/form/?ID=20

jimbo.house.gov/taxes redirects to jimbo.house.gov/forms/form/?ID=20

In order for us to complete your redirect request, please send us an email to help@fireside21.com or hop into chat with the following two URLs: 1) the URL of the page that you wish to redirect to another; and 2) the URL of end destination page. Please note that this will constitute as billable work, so feel free to reach out to us for a quick quote!
