Email communications from constituents often begin when they submit information to the contact form on your website. Campaign emails that come from advocacy organizations (think AARP, Chamber of Commerce) work a little differently.
Advocacy groups often hire advocacy vendors (CQ RollCall, Blackbaud, Voter Voice) to ensure that the messages their members want to send to Congress are delivered to the correct Representatives and Senators in a way that will get those lawmakers' attention.
CWC (Communicating With Congress) is an API tool used by advocacy vendors to send constituent communications directly into your Fireside account, where they appear in your account's inbox.
When emails come through the CWC, this is what happens:
-
A constituent enters information into a campaign page, which is owned by the advocacy organization from which they receive updates about important issues. The campaign page then submits the message to the advocacy vendor.
-
The advocacy vendor formats the message into a machine readable format, determines the congressional district based on mailing address, and sends it to the CWC Black Box for processing.
-
The Black Box looks at the district tag and maps that to a Member's email address; then it sends the message to that email address. Each office has a unique email address for the purposes of this delivery.
-
The message then goes to Fireside's server for processing, where it is examined and routed to the appropriate client. **Mailing addresses are also validated at this stage. If the message has an invalid address or is discovered to have gone to the wrong district, Fireside sends the advocacy organization a failure message.**
-
The constituent message is imported into your Fireside emanager and shows up in the inbox, ready to be logged.
