Quick Edits to the Homepage

Here we’ll talk about some of the common features on the homepage that need occasional edits and can be done pretty quickly and efficiently. Some offices have an alert bar, a statistics bar, and/or a carousel of images on their house.gov main page. All offices have a navigation bar, as well the office location bar, and all of these pages can be edited on the office level with some guidance.

The trick is knowing where to find these features in Fireside. They’ll always begin at Website > Pages. Check out more info below:

Finding and Editing the Alert Bar

If your office’s site has this feature, you’ll find it at the top of the page as a red bar going across with some key content. For example, for some offices that have districts that experience hurricane season or natural disasters like wildfires, they tend to have this alert bar feature so that they have the option to turn it on at a moment’s notice to provide key info. During these months,  constituents can go on their website and be able to quickly get those resources. When the info is no longer needed, you can then turn it off or add info about another pressing issue that might come up.

**If you do not have this feature, please reach out to help@fireside21.com and we will get this setup for you**

Here’s what you’ll do to make changes to the alert bar:

  1. You’ll go to Website > Pages > Homepage (most recent - Homepage YEAR

2. At the top, you’ll find the alert bar section. There are two pieces to this.

3. One is the “Alert Bar Controller,” which is used to turn the alert bar on or off. You’ll simply add a 1 to the HTML Body Text to turn it on and delete the number to turn it off.

4.The other is the “Alert Bar Text.” This is where you’ll put in the relevant language that constituents will see at the top of the page. Our recommendation is to finalize the language component first before turning on the alert bar in the step above.

Finding and Editing the Statistics Bar

If your office has this feature, it’ll either be placed at the top of the page (in place of an alert bar) or somewhere further down on the page. Statistics offices track typically include:

  • Dollars Returned to Constituents

  • Constituent Cases Completed

  • Responses to Letters, Emails, and Calls

  • District Events Attended

It’s ultimately up to your office as to which stats to track. Here’s how to make changes to the stats bar:

  1. Go to Website > Pages > Homepage (most recent - Homepage YEAR) > Statistics Bar > Statistics (Edit in HTML, exclude commas from numbers)

2. * Pro Tip : Copy and paste the current numbers just in case they need to be changed back or you’ve got to double-check your addition.

If you have a carousel feature and would like to change the images, You can change the images by following these steps:

  1. Go to Website > Photos > Homepage Slideshow (1350 x 650)

Here you’ll be able to adjust the order of the photos, as well as add new ones. Also, remember that the size of the photos is important here. They must be 1350 x 650 (width x height) in size.

Making Edits to the Navigation Bar

Here’s how to find it in Fireside and make changes:

  1. Website > Pages > Homepage (most recent - Homepage YEAR) > Navigation > Body Text > HTML tab
  2. To make sure everything is seamless, you’ll want to go into the HTML tab and do a quick ctrl + f to find the Services dropdown section. Study the code and add an additional line to that menu section.
