Affiliation codes are tagged to profiles to identify information and/or describe preferences or relationships for constituents.

Have a clear and consistent naming convention for affiliation codes so that duplicates are not created and so that future staff understand the meaning of the codes.

Be sure to keep your affiliations organized in the affiliation hierarchy. More specific “child” affiliations can be nested under their more general “parent” affiliation codes. This makes them easier to find and use when building audiences, for instance.

An example parent affiliation would be “Elected Officials” while a child affiliation under that parent would be “Mayors.”
