Issues Codes - FS Guide

  • Issue codes are either tagged to pieces of correspondence (inbound and/or outbound) or to responses to survey questions. They help your office to group individuals based on their mail and survey history, which in turn help your office’s reporting on mail and message targeting with the audience builder.

  • Have a clear and consistent naming convention for issue codes so that duplicates are not created and so that future staff understand the meaning of the codes.

  • Be sure to keep your issues organized in the issue hierarchy. More specific “child” issues can be nested under their more general “parent” issues codes. This makes them easier to find and use when building audiences, for instance.

    • An example parent issue would be “2021 499’s” while a child issue under that parent would be “April 2021 499 - Congressional Budget.”

  • Adding a new code under “Issue Hierarchy” does not automatically add it as an option on your website. Issue pages for your site must be created under Website > Issues. If you’re looking to re-publish issue pages to your website, you can do so from the bottom section on the issues page in System Settings.

  • Published Issues (on the bottom of the Issues page) are the list of issues that can populate your Website > Issues pages. This list is unaffected by your issue code hierarchy.
