The pages section is hierarchical and you want to use it strategically. This section can be broken down into folders and pages.
-
Folders: When you create a folder you are choosing the root for a URL which can house future pages. For example, creating a folder named “Services” designates that the folder will house pages on your site associated with that topic. The folder you create will have a corresponding URL related to the name of the folder (which you can edit as you make it). By default, the root URL in our example would be http://membername.house.gov/services/ .
-
Pages: When you create a page within a folder, you are designating that that page should follow the root URL of the folder housing it. For example, if you create a page within the “Services” for “Disaster Relief,” the URL will be, by default, http://membername.house.gov/services/disaster-relief.htm (spaces require a “-”). Thus, you want to be strategic as you plan out how you create your folders and pages in order to get your desired URLs while maintaining a sensible organization of your pages.

Fireside’s web team can set up a redirect for you after the fact (so your desired URL auto-routes to the actual URL you’ve created), but this will require billable time to set up and in most cases can be avoided.

When you create a page and want to edit its content (or edit the content of the main page of a folder), click “Body Text” underneath the name of the page to view and use the editor.
-
If you want to preview a page or see its URL, hit the snowman button to the right of “Body Text.”
-
You can add components to an individual page to break up the content and its underlying code. This can help cordon off a particular portion of the page built using special code that you want to keep isolated from and unaffected by edits to other sections. You can reorder components by dragging and dropping them.

Note: Whenever you make a folder or page, the link is technically live on your site (and can be shared with someone internally or externally, if desired). This does not mean it will automatically appear on your website in your navigation; that must be done manually, and Fireside can help to ensure your navigation code does not break. Send us an email or chat with the page URL and where specifically you want the page to be linked.
