You can create and customize surveys to solicit information from constituents. Fireside automatically stores the collected data on the constituent’s profile, either matching to an existing profile based on email address or creating a new profile.
-
Surveys collect information via fields which can be customized to match the question asked.
-
It is strongly recommended that all fields be given unique names, as this helps staff down the road in understanding the data stored in each field. Never use generic field names like “question1” as the true meaning of the data collected will be obfuscated.

Surveys must at minimum collect emails in order to try to match emails to existing profiles and/or store at least one way for you to get back in touch with the submitter.
-
When your survey is ready for sharing, always be sure to publish it. This way, when you’re ready to stop collecting submission data, you can easily unpublish the survey, and that will “break” the published URL (i.e., make it not publicly accessible). This is excellent for keeping track of which surveys should be live and actively collecting data and which should not.
-
Issue codes can be tagged to responses of survey questions so that you can identify and group people based on the issues that correspond to their responses. They help with targeting outreach to constituents and reporting on the topics your constituents care about.
-
If you want to view individual constituent responses, you’ll need to use the audience tool to do so. Simply create a new audience, and use the “Survey” filter to find anyone who filled out the given survey. From here, you can then export the matched people into a spreadsheet, but be sure to check off all of the fields you used in the survey (go to the survey editor to see what they were named) before clicking “Export” on the final page. Any field you check will be included in the spreadsheet.
-
Exporting survey data underscores the importance of giving your survey fields - or any field - an intelligible name that makes clear what data is stored there for current and future staff.
-
Surveys that follow specific requirements can be embedded into newsletters, which can create more engagement between constituents and your office!
